A Word from the Principal

Bree is a spirited and standout font that takes its inspiration from handwriting. It’s sure to grab your reader’s attention, especially in short paragraphs.

Sandford Parish N.S is a State National School under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough.  Sandford Parish N.S. is an inclusive school where all children are welcome.  Places are offered in accordance with our Admissions Policy.

The most important people in Sandford Parish N.S. are the children.  We strive to ensure that each and every child reaches his/her full potential.

The State curriculum is taught in Sandford Parish N.S. and children are afforded the opportunity to reach their full potential in an environment which is well resourced, child friendly and where everyone knows each other.  Our recent Department of Education evaluation on the quality of teaching and learning in Sandford Parish N.S. described us as a “very good school”.  This is the highest accolade the Department of Education can bestow on a school.

In addition to high academic expectations children in Sandford are afforded the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.  There is soccer and hockey available along with athletics training.  Basketball is played after school while Lego club, speech and drama and chess are other very popular activities.  Our school choir and ensemble rehearse twice weekly and lead us at our Start of Year service, Harvest, Carol and End of Year service.  They also perform at the Interschool Cór Fheile and the Roman Catholic children’s Communion and Confirmation ceremonies.

Sandford Parish N.S. is a single stream school, where everyone knows each other.  As we are an inclusive school, children are part of a community where everybody supports each other.  The very active Parent Association (P.T.A.) is very supportive of the school and the children.  They arrange many activities including creative arts competition, Santa visits and they act as librarians in our school library.  They also arrange parental events and class quizzes.

On completion of 6th class, well balanced and well rounded children leave Sandford Parish N.S. for a myriad of secondary schools.  Girls leave primarily for Muckross Park College, which lists us a feeder school on its website.  Alexandra College likewise is happy to accept our pupils.  In terms of co-ed schools, boys and girls go to Sandford Park, The High School, Wesley College and Newpark Comprehensive.  Boys depart for Gonzaga College SJ, St Benildus College and some go to St Marys.  All these schools report back that our pupils thrive, primarily because they try everything and “do their best”.
